Satellite Academy of Fine Arts Enhances High School Experience
As members of the Satellite Fine Arts Academy (SAFA), students graduate with a high school Diploma of Distinction in the Fine Arts. Core academic teachers at Satellite focus on the needs of SAFA students and enhance their traditional high school classes with a specialized fine arts curriculum tailored around their love of music.
Course tracks are offered in:
- Instrumental Music (band or orchestra)
- Chorus
- Theatre
- Visual Arts
- Communication Technology
- Drafting & Design
- Fashion
Students are given a specialized fine arts education where academic teachers team up with the Fine Arts Department to offer activities that include mentoring, guest artists, master classes, artists in residence, individualized guidance, field trips and arts expertise by working professionals.
Joe Scott, Academy Administrator, says that SAFA students are able to take advantage of all honors classes as well as the largest offering of Advanced Placement classes in Brevard County. "Satellite High School's master course schedule is built around the SAFA schedule and SAFA students get priority scheduling," says Scott.
"As an open campus, students can choose Satellite for a rich high school experience in a fine arts enhanced program," says Scott. "The program was designed by experienced instructors who also have successful professional careers as musicians, vocalists, or designers." Being a SAFA music program student means the availability of more music classes than in any standard high school in the county. |
